Chinese Coins Ancient Cash was the currency that was used during all the dynasties of China. Bronze Cowire of Chu 278BC, was used as currency for a very long time during the goods - exchange times. The different value between two exchanged goods was discovered, so the minor currency was used for adjustment. It had been in circulation before the Chou dynasty 1122 - 225BC. From Chou dynasty, the farming tools such as hollow handle spade and knife money was used as currency. The First Emperor Shi Huang Di of Qin (221 - 209BC) issued the copper coinage "Pan-liang" that weighed half an ounce and that was the finding of the round money with a square hole in the center. It had been circulated for about two thousand years. The coinage of the Qing dynasty is fairly straightforward. The Qing dynasty emperors used only one reign title each on their cast coins. Because of this, these emperors are far better known by their reign titles than their real names. The round shape symbolizes the dome of heaven while the square center represents the four points of the Earth. The coin, as a whole, symbolizes the harmony of heaven & earth.
